John Camara - Electrical Power Expert

With over 40 years of experience as an engineer specializing in Electrical Power, John Camara's journey has been nothing short of remarkable. His expertise has taken him from working on nuclear submarines to contributing to groundbreaking projects such as the space shuttle, the space station, and the Artemis first stage. In a recent interview, John shared valuable insights reflecting his passion for problem-solving and innovation in the field of engineering.

  • Area of Expertise: Electrical Power
  • Memorable Projects: Fixing a nuclear submarine out at sea and serving as the Avionics Power Integrator for NASA's Artemis rocket.
  • Advice for New Engineers: "Study everything. Learn as much as you can, and never stop learning. There will be a time and place where it will come in handy."
  • Exciting Advancements: John is particularly interested in the future of Fusion Energy.

Mark Ludwigson - Water and Wastewater Treatment Specialist

Mark Ludwigson, with 23 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, exemplifies the profound impact engineers can have on communities and the environment. His dedication to using science for the betterment of society is evident in his favorite projects, like installing water and sewer systems for communities in need. During an interview, Mark emphasized the importance of curiosity and highlighted his enthusiasm for upcoming advancements in his field.

  • Memorable Projects: Installing a new water and sewer system for a small community in the Florida Keys and encountering Key deer during inspections.
  • Advice for New Engineers: "Stay curious."
  • Exciting Advancements: Mark is passionate about developments in water reuse and zero liquid discharge technologies.

Peter Tavino - Civil Engineering Veteran

With a remarkable 50 years of experience in civil engineering, Peter Tavino has worked across all branches of the discipline. His journey began in 1974 after earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and his passion for the field was sparked during summer jobs helping his father and uncle build houses. When interviewed, Peter expressed that the most rewarding aspect of being an engineer is gaining a grounded understanding of how our world functions pragmatically. One of his standout achievements includes conducting a design review that led to the addition of more rebar in the foundation floor slab for the Cape Canaveral Space Shuttle Facility—an experience he remembers fondly.

  • Memorable Projects: Adding rebar to the Cape Canaveral Space Shuttle Facility floor slab
  • Advice for New Engineers: "Know that you will help a lot of people who will benefit from your projects, so take your studies and work seriously."
  • Exciting Advancements: DJI Mavic 4 series, robotic wire fasteners of rebar, geothermal heat pumps, and standardized structural inspections.
